So, is air conditioning worth it?

If you only need a gentle breeze on a handful of warm evenings, a fan is fine. But UK summers are getting hotter and homes — especially modern, airtight or south-facing ones — increasingly overheat. A fixed air conditioning system genuinely lowers the temperature, removes humidity, runs quietly and efficiently, and lasts well over a decade.

The clincher is that an air conditioner is also an air-to-air heat pump: the same unit heats your room efficiently in winter, so it works all year instead of sitting idle. Spread over its lifespan, it’s far better value than it first appears.
