Air Conditioning Finance: Spread the Cost

In short

Air conditioning finance lets you spread the cost of installation across fixed monthly payments instead of paying upfront. Tempest offers finance through Phoenix Financial, subject to status and affordability checks. You agree a term and rate, then pay monthly; finance is regulated by the FCA and your eligibility depends on a credit assessment.

What is air conditioning finance and how does it work?

Air conditioning finance is simply a credit agreement that lets you pay for your installation in fixed monthly instalments rather than as a single lump sum. Instead of finding the full cost upfront, you spread it over an agreed term, often somewhere between one and ten years, and pay a set amount each month.

At Tempest, finance is arranged through Phoenix Financial, an FCA-regulated lender. In practice it works like this: we quote for your system, you choose whether to pay outright or apply for finance, and if you apply, the lender runs an affordability and credit assessment. If approved, you sign a regulated credit agreement, your install goes ahead, and your monthly payments begin. Finance is always subject to status, meaning approval depends on your individual circumstances.

Why spread the cost of air conditioning?

A quality air conditioning system is a meaningful investment. A single split unit typically costs £1,500–£3,000, a multi-split for three or four rooms £3,500–£7,000, and a ducted whole-home system £6,000–£20,000. In Surrey and the wider South-East, prices tend to run roughly 10–20% above the UK average. Finding several thousand pounds in one go isn't realistic for many households.

Spreading the cost keeps your savings intact and lets you enjoy a comfortable home now rather than waiting. It also helps you budget with confidence, because your payments are fixed and predictable. Many customers like that an air conditioner is a reverse-cycle heat pump, so the same system that cools you in a July heatwave also provides efficient heating in winter, year-round value from a single monthly payment.

A representative finance example

The figures below are illustrative only, to show how monthly payments are structured. Your actual rate, term and monthly amount depend on the lender's assessment, the amount borrowed and the deposit you choose. They are not a quote or an offer of credit.

As a guide, a £5,000 multi-split installation spread over a longer term reduces the monthly outlay considerably compared with paying upfront, while a shorter term means higher monthly payments but less interest paid overall. Always check the total amount repayable and the APR before committing, your written quotation and pre-contract information will set these out in full.

The FCA disclosure you should always see

Air conditioning finance is a regulated activity, so there are protections you're entitled to. Tempest Air Conditioning Ltd is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Phoenix Financial Consultants Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We introduce you to the lender; we are not a lender. All finance is subject to status and affordability checks, and is available to UK residents aged 18 and over.

Before you sign anything, you should receive clear pre-contract information showing the cash price, the deposit, the amount of credit, the interest rate and APR, the term, the total amount payable and your monthly payment. Take your time to read it. A reputable installer will never pressure you to sign on the spot, and you should never feel rushed into a credit agreement.

Working out what's affordable: use the cost calculator

Before you think about monthly payments, it helps to understand the likely total cost of the system you actually need, which depends on how many rooms you want to cool, the type of system and your property. Our online cost calculator gives you a realistic Surrey-area estimate in minutes, so you can see the full picture before exploring finance.

From there, you can judge what monthly figure sits comfortably within your budget. We're always happy to talk it through honestly, if outright payment makes more sense for you, we'll say so. The goal is a system that keeps you comfortable without overstretching your finances, on terms you fully understand.

Frequently asked questions

Is air conditioning finance available to everyone?
No. Finance is subject to status, meaning it depends on a credit and affordability assessment by the lender. It is available to UK residents aged 18 and over, and approval is not guaranteed.
Who provides the finance – Tempest or a lender?
Tempest Air Conditioning Ltd is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Phoenix Financial Consultants Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We introduce you to the lender; we are not a lender. The credit agreement is between you and the lender.
Can I get a government grant to help pay for air conditioning?
No. While an air conditioner is technically an air-to-air heat pump, air-to-air systems are not eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which only covers air-to-water, ground-source and biomass heating. Finance is the usual way to spread the cost.
How do I know what my system will cost before applying for finance?
Use our online cost calculator for a realistic Surrey-area estimate based on your rooms and system type, or request a free site survey. Knowing the total cost first helps you decide on a sensible monthly payment.
What should I check before signing a finance agreement?
Always check the APR, the interest rate, the term, your monthly payment and the total amount repayable. You should receive clear pre-contract information, and you should never feel pressured to sign immediately.
Does air conditioning finance cover the heating function too?
Yes. An air conditioner is a reverse-cycle system that both cools and heats, so your finance covers a single system you can use all year round, cooling in summer and efficient heating in winter.
